James Dreier began his professional career at age 16 by walking into the basement of Waterloo bassist Paul Ferguson, to join the Fabulous Pawns. That began a 50+ musical career that includes a 9 year stint in Boston (Berklee College of Music), and 21 years as a jazz professor at the University of Iowa. During this long stretch of musical activity, Dreier has been a member of numerous groups, playing and recording jazz, blues, rock, funk, Latin, and more. At this end of the spectrum he is an Emeritus (retired) professor, and active musician and clinician. His current line up of groups are: The Beaker Brothers Band, The Fabulous Trutones, 3 Dawgs and a Bone and his Latin jazz group, Ritmocano.
