A long-time member of the Iowa City music scene, he didn’t get his first bass until after age thirty. He started out with piano lessons as a child, learned cornet, then trumpet and baritone horn in Junior High and High School, then sang and danced in U of Iowa Theater and Opera productions while an undergraduate. He learned to play bass at the IC Yacht Club blues jam and was asked to join the Blues Instigators, featuring Kevin BF Burt. After a six-year run with that outfit, he spent time backing friend and mentor Michael “Hawkeye” Herman, performed at the MVBS Blues Fest with The Gary Gibson Group, and continues his association with Johnny Kilowatt, aka The Monday Night All-Stars. Ten years ago, he helped to form the Tanya English Band and still enjoys playing at area blues jams. An Aries, Unka_Led prefers the vintage tone of a four-string bass. His favorite foods are pizza, barbeque, and waffles. He enjoys walks around F.W. Kent Park with Miss Tanya and Lucky, their Yorkshire terrier.
